Kronos Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is our single-vineyard estate wine.  These rare vines are more than 30 years old and produce just over one ton per acre each year.  2001 was a classic vintage, with ideal conditions for making powerful yet elegant wines.  There was not a single heat spike over 100 °F during the entire ripening season.  Warm days and cool, foggy nights resulted in inky color and full, complex flavors.  The spare rainfall during the winter months favored a smaller than average crop, contributing uncommon intensity to the wine.      ~ Cathy Corison

Good full ruby. Brooding aromas of black raspberry, minerals, violet and bitter chocolate. Sweeter, denser and fatter than the 2003 and 2002 Napa bottlings, with claret-like notes of leather, smoke, cedar and graphite. Here the acids are more obviously integrated, but there's still a bit of tarry oak to be absorbed. Finishes with lovely length and lingering sweetness. The yield, always low in this vineyard, was just 1-1/2 tons per acre. 91(+1).

94   This single vineyard beauty is Corison’s cellar bet...  It’s a big, flavorful wine, packed with plums, blackberries, currants and mocha, as well as a coating of sweet oak...

... Aromas of blueberry, blackberry, cherry, currant, spice, earth, a soft sweetness and subtle oak introduce flavors of the same which have wonderful depth, layering, and intensity and great, balanced acidity and integrated smooth tannins.  All finish long and medium-broad... Outstanding.   EDITORS’ CHOICE – BEST WINE

The Chronicle’s Wine Selections: Napa Valley Cabernet over $50 by Jon Bonné
*** The organically farmed vineyard, planted on gravelly bench soils between Rutherford and St. Helena, is notable for its 30-year-old vines.  Elusive flowery aromas, with toasted wood notes that dominate but also lend a distinct freshness.  Subtle cherry and blackberry... Tapered ending.
