Record-setting precipitation late into the spring delayed bloom and set in 2005. Then modest, even summer growing conditions were followed by an unusually cool ripening season with nighttime temperatures plummeting into the 40’s in late September and early October. A lovely Indian Summer brought the fruit to perfect ripeness for late October picking. A bumper crop with marvelous flavor intensity and singular balance are the happy result. I love the brightness of the red and blue fruit flavors combined with the lush feel. Aromas of blackberries and candied violets complement flavors of black cherry, boysenberry, cassis, allspice and freshly grated nutmeg. Classic.

Vintage Retrospective: 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – Kronos Vineyard
92   Full, bright ruby. Blackberry, black cherry and crushed-rock minerality, lifted by violet and lilac nuances and a whiff of leather. Juicy and light on its feet, with firm acidity giving excellent definition to the dark berry and violet flavors. The building finish shows firm but surprisingly suave tannins and a compelling light touch. Very sophisticated Napa Cabernet with a long finish of dark berries and spices.                                                                                                            Steve Tanzer, May 2016

Le Pan
Corison Kronos Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
94  Beautiful Kronos with delicacy, intensity, complexity and finesse.  Lovely flavors that still exude primary fruit, ranging from red berries, plum and darker fruit to violet and rose.  A gorgeous wine with a long, silky finish.                                                                                             Jeannie Cho Lee, LP Guide, September-October 2015

Corison 2005 Kronos Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (St. Helena)
…as ripe and fruity as anything out there, and immediately drinkable for its beautiful blackberry, black currant, chocolate and cedar flavors. Still, the tannins are considerable, and the wine should easily negotiate the years. Best now and through 2013, at the least.   94                                                              S.H., 12/31/2009

Steve Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar
2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Kronos Vineyard Napa Valley ($125): Good bright ruby-red. Blackberry, blueberry, licorice and leather on the nose, with a suggestion of cherry liqueur.  Dense, but light on its feet, offering lovely depth of cherry, licorice and leather flavor.  Wonderfully vinous wine; this really vibrates in the mouth.  Cathy Corison makes wines for the long haul, and this one should evolve for at least a decade or two.  The crop level here was two tons per acre in this copious vintage; in ’04 and ’06 it was more like 1.25, according to Corison. 92 (+?)                                                                                                     Issue 138, May/June 2008

Very highly recommended.  13.8% alcohol;  400 cases; 100% CS; released October 2009.                                    October - November 2009

CORISON WINERY  Cabernet Sauvignon KronosVineyard Napa Valley 2005
Crafted with usual Corison constraint… this sleek, singularly refined Cabernet is keyed on cassis with highlights of olive, cedar and cream lightly applied. It is balanced to firmness with fairly fine-grained tannins, and, if never an especially powerful or muscular wine, it shows plenty of stamina at the finish and will gain in refinement over the next several years.                                                                                                                                                                                             December 2009
