Cathy's Tasting Notes Upon Release:
The growing season was just about as perfect as anyone could hope for with moderate crop set and cool nights from veraison to picking.  The result is a wine with a concentration and intensity that is possible only from great vineyards in an exceptional vintage.  The 1990 is seamless and complex, packed with cherry, blueberry and blackberry fruit and embellished with olives, cedar, chocolate, lavender and spice.  The texture is characteristically soft and supple with elegant balance.  ~ Cathy Corison

Cathy's Notes from 25 Vintage Retrospective Tasting, October 2014:
Dark red brick color. Very lively. Complex, primary bing cherry and plum fruit with hints of peppermint, tar and warm baking spices on the nose. Still youthful! Mouthful of lively, savory flavor. Cherry and blueberry fruit. Sandalwood notes. Nice soft, tannic grip.  Drink or hold. LOVE.

Decanter Buying Guide
"...the 1990 is certainly something (Cathy Corison) can be proud of.  This Cabernet is the third produced so far by Corison, and the wine is sourced purely from growers in the Rutherford area of the Napa Valley.  On the nose it is big and powerful with soft berry fruits and a touch of new oak vanilla.  On the palate the mintiness of the Cabernet shows through and combines with rich, soft fruits to produce a concentrated wine with length and structure.  Enough tannins to age well, but one may have difficulty holding back for very long."                                                                                                                                                     August 1994

*****   ...its overall appeal of tannin, immense flavor, and majestic fruit nuances seperate it from its less aggressive predecessor (the 1989)... an epiphany to outstanding winemaking, the equal of any from Bordeaux.  92 points                                                                                                             January 1, 1994

The Baltimore Sun
ON WINE by Michael Dresser
"Cathy Corison, a cabernet specialist, has been moving toward the head of the class since the 1987 vintage.  Now she's there.  This wine, with its marvelous concentration and intense black cherry and spice flavors, is her best."                                                                                                                             1992

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine
Light cassis scents are interwoven with rich notes of cocoa, dark chocolate and vanillin oak scents in the attractive although never intense aromas.  Medium-full-bodied and supple feel on the palate, the flavors are focused on currant-like fruit with the nuances noted in the aromas providing subtle enrichment...                  December 1993

Vintage Ideas for the Perfect Holiday Gift by Larry Walker
"This is a lovely, balanced Cabernet, perfect for the person who actually cellars wine, as it should continue to develop and improve in the bottle right into the next century.  The flavors are a ripe cherry with a touch of chocolate and maybe just a hint of mint; everything holds together beautifully."

John Winthrop Haeger
Luminous reddish mahogany; ample nose of tar, bramble and mesquite; rich and mouth-coating on the palate with hints of cocoa and cacao; then finally grippy on a long, clean finish.  Lovely and still very enjoyable...                                                                                                                                                        Tasted 12/2016
