2010 Kronos Cabernet 750ml

Sold Out

Three years of drought broke with a rainy spring in 2010. We got a late start to the season with very cool weather that delayed bud break, flowering and fruit-set by a couple of weeks. Cooler than normal summer temperatures continued into one of the coldest ripening seasons I have ever seen.  At the eleventh hour a gorgeous Indian Summer set in, bringing the grapes to full ripeness.

I love the 2010 Kronos. A tiny crop of scraggly clusters with tiny berries resulted in a wine of uncommon depth and concentration. Complex plum and boysenberry fruit play with baking spices, peppermint, cocoa and dusty mineral grace notes on the palate. Every so often I catch an elusive whiff of Daphne; the characteristic Kronos Vineyard floral perfume is already emerging.        ~ Cathy Corison

Antonio Galloni Presents VINOUS Explore All Things Wine
Cathy Corison's 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Kronos Vineyard is one of the most surprising wines in this tasting, as I did not expect it to be so open and expressive. Made from diseased, head-trained vines just behind Corison's barn-like winery, the 2010 Kronos, is deep, savory and wonderfully expressive, with fabulous concentration and tons of depth. With air, some of the signature floral/savory/mineral notes come forward. Violets, lavender, graphite, licorice and blue/purplish fruits abound in a classically structured, pedigreed Cabernet Sauvignon of the highest level. The good news is the 2010 won't take as long to open up as I had initially thought.”  97                                                                                                                                                                                              Antonio Galloni, June 2015
Antonio Galloni Presents VINOUS Explore All Things Wine
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Kronos is one of the most striking, hauntingly beautiful wines I have ever tasted from Cathy Corison. The perfume alone is captivating, but then the waves of fruit cover every inch of the palate. The 2010 boasts stunning depth, presence and personality. This is a super-classic Cabernet Sauvignon endowed with spectacular depth and intensity yet buffered by a firm sense of structure. Violets, orange peel, white pepper and a host of exotic notes linger on the close. What a gorgeous wine this is.  97                                                                                                                                                    Antonio Galloni, November 2013

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine
95 (+++)  In this wine, Corison offers an exceptional combination of exuberant fruit, admirable depth, layers of curranty, cherryish and roasted vanilla flavors and nicely mannered tannins. To say that the wine is tasty without being bold is to miss the point. Its flavors go on and on, and they build through the finish, yet there is not a hint of excess at any stop, and the wine is sure to age on its balance, complexity and underlying firmness rather than on the basis of large and palate-challenging muscularity. We know that the top Cabernets can last up to twenty years. This is such a wine.                                                                                 Reviewed: April 2013

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Kronos Vineyard 2010, Corison (13.6%)
Strong cassis-violet & graphite bouquet, with lovely floral accents… Polished, refined tannins back quite fresh, pretty cabernet fruit.  Elegant, with good acidity and deliciously long finish.  Black and blue fruits; remarkably fresh; crunchy, dry, good acid; firm, restrained but plenty of concentration; built for the long haul. The 2010 Kronos Vineyard from Corison has a wonderfully expressive blackberry fruit with a floral, violet edge. On the palate the wine is vibrant and intense. It is dense but not heavy, balanced and very elegant. With plenty of grip and freshness, it is a wonderful wine with a great future ahead of it.  Aggregate score: 94 - Top Scoring Wine                                                                                                                                                                                    2014 American Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting, October 2014

Rich and vibrant, with blueberry and black cherry fruits, a real electricity running through this wine, from single vineyard, old vine Cabernet which is naturally low yielding and concentrated. 30-year-old vines on St George rootstock. Mid purplish crimson. Complex, non-flashy nose with aromatic herbs and real savour and attack. Nothing pushy here. Super appetising. Much more convincing natural acidity than most.  13.5%  Drink 2014-2024  17.5                                                                                            30 October 2014

Exceptional:  2010 Corison Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, “Kronos” ($135):  “…this 13.6% alcohol gem has traces of mint/tarragon, a hint of cedar and subtle spice to go along with handsome fruit and a great structure, both silky and still showing the power of the grape.  Best in a decade. A great wine.”

2010 Corison, “Kronos Vineyard,” Napa Valley ($135) – Medium-dark ruby with purplish tinges; attractive, forward, perfumed, deep, complex, blue and black fruit aroma with hints of cassis, dried herbs, and cocoa; full body; forward, rich, elegant, well balanced, complex, currant, dark cherry, and blackberry flavors with good depth and structure; full tannin; lingering aftertaste. Cuvee Corner Wine Blog:  Kronos: Experience a Golden (vint-)Age of Corison Cabernet
2010 Kronos Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon: From the first sniff, sip and swirl, I fell in love with this wine. From my notes - It feels genuine; suffused with notes of earth and herb, the nose melds black currants and blueberries that are layered upon violets and toasty oak. The palate is taut, energetic and exciting. The fruit core is intensely focused, integrating layers of acai and blueberry/boysenberry and blackcurrant/cherry in a stream of sensory stimulation. The dark fruit core is pierced by acidity, lifting them to reveal plum skin, hints of bitter chocolate, spice and espresso. In a world filled with modernly styled CA Cabernets high in fruit and alcohol and low in acid, Cathy produces elegantly, restrained and yet stunning and fiercely addictive wines. This truly is an outstanding Napa cab…

I hesitate to impose a score on such an elegant creature but this has to sit comfortable in the 92-95 point range, and likely leaning towards the upper end of the range as time passes and it gently unwinds. Best after 2017.                                                      posted by Andy McCallion, February 27, 2014, www.linkis.com/blogspot.com/vlkdg

Resounding black cherry and perfumed floral notes fully capture the nose with this complex, deeply structured, energetic Cabernet Sauvignon. Layer upon layer of blackberry, cassis, spiced plum, tobacco and a touch of earthy minerality converge and flow in harmony across the palate. This gem engages the senses completely through the memorable finish.  Lively acidity keeps it vibrant, the oak is exquisitely integrated, and firm, assertive tannins promise longevity; unquestionably an ageworthy wine.                                                                                                                                                                               Ellen on Wine, January 31, 2014

The wine has a rich and dense color – again, quite restrained aromatically. On the palate, the wine shows tremendous promise – the depth of fruit and concentration of flavors is apparent – very delicious...                                                                                                                   Allan Bree, February 24, 2014

Corison 2010 Kronos Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley ($135):   …The 2010 Kronos is bright cranberry in color, and has a lightly floral aroma accented with ripe blackberries. The wine is powerful yet elegant, with juicy black fruit flavors, firm tannins and a long finish. It’s deliciously drinkable now, with decanting, but should age beautifully for another 20 years.                         Tina Caputo, posted on April 22, 2014, http://blogs.marinij.com/northbaywoman/2014/04/22/five-great-wines-made-women/

CORISON, 2010 KRONOS VINEYARD, NAPA VALLEY, $548 ($137)   ****+
Intensely flavored, crisp, and full bodied; a vibrant, complex Cabernet with fine balance and length.  Moderately tannic; warrants aging.  In aroma/flavor, it tastes of black currant, cherry, violet, blueberry, toast, pepper, and spicy oak. Very fine quality. 13.6% [2017-2022]                  Ronn Wiegand, August 2014, Issues 155, 156, 157

Very aromatic and pretty with blueberry, mineral and stone aromas that follow through to a full body, integrated tannins and a polished, refined finish. Pure fruit here.
